Stephen Reynolds was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. He earned his BFA at the University of Michigan, his MFA degree at The School of the Art Institute in Chicago and later apprenticed in the art of lettering and gilding with a master sign painter in Chicago. In addition to an active career as an artist, he paints since 1985 distinctive text and images on a variety of substrates including paper, wood, glass, aluminum, drywall, concrete, and brick, and provides a broad range of sign painting services. Reynolds often works closely with architects, designers, project managers, and business owners in the development and production of commissions for cultural institutions, individual artists, restaurants, trade shows, and other businesses.
